Festivals in the Carolinas in November
75
Jeeez... where did October go already?
In a coupla days I'll have every rug rat within a 20 block radius banging on my door aggravating my dog and moochin' free candy.
Although, I'll admit to a grudging enjoyment of the whole thing...
.... it certainly takes me back to when I was a kiddie winkie.
I'm waiting for the day when I open the door , and there'll be a little version of ME standing there, dressed up in the skeleton costume I used to love so much.
And of course, if that happens, I'll sic the dog on him.
You gotta know how to deal with those types, ya know?
Ahh well.... good times.... good times.
Time again for my monthly feature -- Festivals in the Carolinas -- where I spend a couple boring hours looking up the dates for the various festivals and events going on around these parts.
I'd leave it to somebody else... but I've had the experience --
---of wanting to go somewhere and doing something --
but not being able to find information on anything happening.
So, this way, if I'm bored and wanna go somewhere, all I gotta do is read my own blog.
Whatever works.
So..... drumroll, please..... Festivals in the Carolinas for November, 2010.
Anderson, South Carolina is the home of the annual Balloons Over Carolina fest---
Friday thru Sunday, November 5 thru 7 at the Civic Center.
... featuring over 25 hot-air balloons, with balloon rides, parachute jumping, and all kinds of height-fearless activities..... not to mention food and stuff like that.
Bring somebody to rub yer neck on the way home.
Read all about it at: http://www.balloonsoveranderson.org/
That same weekend, November 5 and 6.... Gaston, SC is holding their 28th annual Collard Greens Festival.
There will be a beauty pageant, a parade, crafts, entertainment.....
and of course, all kinds of dishes with collard greens.
Ok- I admit it, I don't eat that stuff, but plenty o folk around here do...
.... and the folks in Gaston can show you how to turn a weed into a tasty comestible,
.... if anybody can.
Saturday, November 6 on Cape Fear, you can go FLY yer Kite!
It's the Wrightsville Beach annual Kite Fly-- and it's a whole bunch of ...
.... well.., people flying kites. Hey- what else is there to do on Wrightsville Beach that time of year, anyway? Bring your own kite.
To ARMS - to ARMS!! The Roman Army is invading South Carolina !!!!
(Let's hope they leave it in better shape than those damn Yankees did... )
Yes, it's true--SC's only Roman Legion will be at the Castra Romana Festival of
Imperial Rome when it comes to Givhans State Park near Ridgeville on Saturday,
November 13th. Actually, they'll be there all week, but the public demonstrations of things like marching, fighting, armor displays and such are only on Saturday.
However, if you can't get enough of this re-enactment kinda stuff, they are looking for people to join their legion.
You don't even have to speak Latin.

There's a great coffee shop in Mebane - the Mebane Espress! They have Italian gelottos too!
There is no cell phone service in Givhans Ferry right near the park there- some phones anyway and every phone I used there.
I bet my brother and a bunch of Salleys will be at the Chicken Strut. Is the Frog jump over in Springfield not at the same time?
They should stop by the Edisto Gardens in Orangeburg for the gardens and the light displays too! Man! You can sure pick 'em Sir! You do your homework!
Thank you already brought festival to sight, Chris. Seem fun! By the way, I am one of the people who love those plant you called "weed". Those are tasty if you put the right ingredient to go with it. LOL

Chris, There is certainly plenty of places to go if you like to get out on the weekends and have some fun. Chitlins and collards aren't exactly in my most favorite food category but that activities sound interesting. I like the last sign.
